Importance of exercise:



Increasingly sedentary lifestyles can lead to a trend in health dangers such as depression, cardiovascular disease, and most importantly, obesity.   


-          My Gym aims to reverse this dangerous trend by providing a noncompetitive, supportive, and overall, positive atmosphere.


Benefits of exercise:


-          Helps children enhance growth and development


-          Builds self-esteem and confidence so that they can develop independence, self-discipline, social skills and even a sense of humor, all of which lead to an increased feeling of self-worth.


Three main categories required to developing an appropriate level of physical fitness:


-          Endurance


o   Can be done with regular aerobic exercise


o   Regular labored breathing increases the heart rate and strengthens the heart over an extended period of time


-          Strength


o   Strength can easily be developed through push-up, sit-ups, climbing, or even doing a handstand. All of these activities train major muscles in the body to help tone and strengthen them.


-          Flexibility


o   Simple stretching exercises can help children to improve their flexibility, thus allowing muscles and joints to bend and acquire a full range of motion. Examples of these stretching exercises include doing the splits, doing a cartwheel, or even reaching for a toy.


Overall, the physical fitness that children acquire with simple activities in My Gym not only augments their physique, but also aids the development of their cognitive and emotional abilities.
